The libraries of the Sami Shamoon College of Engineering constitute a major component of the educational experience of students at the college.    The library encourages student awareness of the importance of the library and information gathering techniques and teaches students the skills equired for using its resources. The aim of the library is to encourage  students to utilize the library's resources both during their studies and also to instill in them the importance of the library as a resource later during their professional careers.   

 

Opening hours: The libraries are open  from Sunday to Thursday, 8:00 to 22:00. On Friday the library is open from 8:00 to 13:00.   Operating hours are extended to 04:00 AM  during examination periods (three months a year). 

 

Collections:

The library has three main collections (lending, reference, and reserve) composed of 40,000 books  (15,000 titles) of which 15,000 are on the Ashdod campus and 25,000 on the Beersheva campus.  In addition, material in available in electronic format, such as compact disks and access to websites.  A student can borrow up to 15 books at one time.  All of the libraries are equipped with wireless internet connections.  Students can borrow books from both campus libraries.  

Use of the lending collection:  There are 40,000 book loans annually. .  The collection is composed of engineering books in various fields: building engineering, software engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, industrial engineering and management and software engineering. The collection includes a number of copies of each textbook.  

The reserve collection contains 2,000 books and is arranged by departments.   There are a number of copies of each book indicated in the syllabus and additional textbooks. This collection is not intended for borrowing but for study within the library.

 

Search for books and databases:

·          The library uses  Aleph library management system.  This system is accessible to students via the internet at all times. The Aleph system allows students to locate books and  reserve books online.  The Google-Books feature also indicates titles that are held in our library.

·          A web page maintained by the library allows students access to current information on various subjects, including  engineering and physical data, engineering suppliers, standards, etc.  The library purchases databases of  periodicals and articles that are freely available for student use.
